Infinite Sustain

Infinite Sustain is an experimental browser-based instrument focused on continuous sound, evolving drones, and ambient exploration. The project began as a simple tone and white noise generator, then gradually expanded into a more open-ended system for shaping texture, movement, and atmosphere over time.

The work is influenced by an interest in drone-based music and sustained tone as a meditative or healing state, drawing inspiration from artists like Terry Riley and other forms of continuous music. Rather than focusing on melody or traditional composition, the instrument centers around gradual shifts, layered harmonics, microtones, and extended duration—treating sound more like an environment than a sequence.

The latest version explores ways to create more variation from tones with less friction. Expanded modulation controls, a tone spiral, and a sequencer introduce more playable interaction while keeping the experience minimal, slow, and exploratory. Visually, the interface uses waveform feedback and spatial controls to make sound feel tangible and reactive, creating something closer to tuning into natural atmospheres than operating a traditional synthesizer.
